Independence Day…Awards!

4 07 2013

Dearly loved fellow bloggers:

In honor of Independence Day, I am setting these awards free from my “Drafts” box. I hate to turn them out onto the Internet Highway, so would you give at least one of them a home?

Blogging is such a delight. It would not be so without all of your encouragement and support. Thanks to you, Lessons by Heart has had over 7,000 views and around 400 followers from about 45 countries since I began writing on March 26 of this year. I appreciate all you’ve done to make this endeavor so successful. ūüôā

Oh, and for future references, I appreciate your kind thoughts in sending awards my way, however, I don’t have time to treat them with the integrity they deserve. If you could think of me…then pass the award to another equally (if not more) deserving recipient, I would be most thankful!

Love to you all in the name of Jesus,

Praise Him!

And now, for the awards:

There is one thing about life that never changes,

And that is that things are constantly changing.

Change is everywhere in our natural world.  Each second of each minute of each hour of each day, nothing stays the same.  Over the centuries, the ocean waves have never remained still. They repeat their rhythm with crashing roars on the coastline, evaporating to create rain clouds,  providing varying degrees of tides, and sometimes a very dangerous temper. Even the stillest lake, has life moving within its serene waters.

We may think we can sit¬†perfectly still, but the world inside our bodies also remains in motion.¬† Cells are dividing, multiplying, dying; always changing. Our minds continue to take on knowledge, concepts, and new details.¬†We must¬†remain flexible with love and grace in order to grow and mature. There is an old¬† saying that goes something like this, ‚ÄúIf you are not moving forward in life, you are slipping backwards.‚ÄĚ

When I was first informed of my nomination for the Versatile Blogger Award, I couldn’t help but admire the shiny, golden trophy symbol. It looked so sleek and glossy I could almost feel the smooth coolness of the metal.  But that glitter fades in comparison to the importance of life’s versatility.

The blogosphere is also alive with versatility.  How boring would it be if everyone wrote about the same thing, with the same passion, and perspective?  We would all quickly lose interest in blogging. I am humbled and honored to be included in the nomination for this award.  Thank you Elizabeth Yalian for considering me. You share the joys and frustrations of caring for your mother with Alzheimer through lighthearted and sometimes painfully raw poetry.

It is now my turn to nominate noteworthy blogs for this award.  It was a tough choice. I looked through many blogs and came up with these 15 out of the many that pulled at my heart strings. The nominations encourage us to check out amazing blogs we may never have run across before.

Rules for the nominees.

  • You are to thank the person who nominated you and link that thanks back to their blog.
  • Select your own 15 blogs that have touched you, and you wish to nominate.¬† That‚Äôs the toughtest part, choosing a small few from¬†the large amount of wonderful blogs you will run into.
  • Notify these bloggers of your nomination.
  • Copy and paste the award on your own blog if you want it on your web page.
  • Share 7 random tidbits with us about yourself.

Note to the nominees.  It would be wonderful if you could pass this award on to your own nominees, but please don’t feel put out if your schedule doesn’t afford you the time to pass on this award.  I hope and pray this nomination is a blessing to you all.

Seven bits of random info about me:

  1. I’d rather live on the coast
  2. I used to create my own musicals when I was a kid. My bed was my Jeep, my co-star either Elvis Presley or Davey Jones
  3. I drive a PT Cruiser with a “Things Go Better With Jesus” sticker on the rear window
  4. I love gourmet food – but realize I’ll be flush it tomorrow, so I content myself with meat and potatoes!
  5. Jesus is my hero
  6. I love to dance
  7. I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up!

Thank you again Elizabeth.  May God richly bless your labor of love.

If it weren’t for GOD, I would have been like a beautiful flower in a garden that was never noticed. So, glory to GOD for making my blog an award winner.
To my dear brother, Mike, I want to say may Jesus bless you real richly for choosing Lessons by Heart. I really appreciate it :)
As part of the rules of acceptance, I am expected to answer five questions, thus : (To all nominees: Please answer the same questions.)

Another one!

Wow! I received a message from¬†Obiamaka¬†telling me that I’ve been nominated for ‚ÄėThe Very Inspiring Bloggers Award‚Äô. It is an honor to participate with the Lord in writing a blog that is believed to be deserving of this award. I‚Äôm humbled – and thankful to the Lord for giving me this opportunity to tell others of His great love, grace, and mercy.

Thank you, Obiamaka, and a warm thank you to everyone who has taken out time to visit, to comment, to like and to follow. You are the reason I write and I pray that through what is offered here, you will be drawn into a deeper relationship with Jesus, for that is His definition of eternal life!

Every award comes with an opportunity to honor those who encourage and inspire me. This is never an easy choice (especially since some I would love to honor do not desire awards for what they are doing – you know who you are!). Alas, I am limited to fifteen nominations.

They are…(drum roll, please)…

  1. You! I don’t follow blogs that are boring or uninspiring, so may you be blessed with this award!

(There were way more than fifteen. I simply could not choose so few!)

The award rules:

1. Display the award logo on your blog.
2. Link back to the person who nominated you.
3. Nominate 15 other bloggers for this award and link to them.
4. Notify those bloggers of the nomination and the award’s requirements.

Award-Free Zone

13 06 2013

You’ve been so generous with the awards,

and I am truly humbled and honored that you’ve considered me worthy of blog award nominations.

due to insufficient time to meet the requirements to receive these awards

and to do so with integrity,

(which is important to me)

I have decided to make

Lessons by Heart

an award free blog from this point forward;

and as such will graciously decline any future nominations.

(I think this means I get to keep the ones I already have. ūüėČ )

PS ¬†I still have 6 awards to be processed. You need to know this so you don’t think I changed my mind when I post them!

May the Lord bless each of you, dear brothers and sisters. Blogtopia is my favorite place to “hang” because of you!

Many thanks to Kim at Unwalled who generously shared this badge with me!

(She has some great posts, by the way. Stop by and say howdy!)

WordPress Family Award

10 06 2013

This is probably my favorite award!

Thank you, Melanie. If “tag-backs” were allowed, you’d have been at the top of the list. You bless my socks off on a regular basis! ūüôā If you haven’t visited her blog, you’re missing out on a real treat. The stories she shares about family and life in general are heartwarming and inspiring.

A message from Shaun, the creator of this award:

This is an award for everyone who is part of the ‚ÄúWordPress Family‚ÄĚ I started this award on the basis that the WordPress family has taken me in, and showed me love and a caring side only WordPress can. The way people take a second to be nice, to answer a question and not make things a competition amazes me here. I know I have been given many awards, but I wanted to leave my own legacy on here by creating my own award, as many have done before. This represents ‚ÄúFamily‚ÄĚ we never meet, but are there for us as family. It is my honour to start this award. Thank you, Shaun @¬†

1. Display the award logo on your blog.

2. Link back to the person who nominated you.

3. Nominate 10 others you see as having an impact on your WordPress experience and family.

4. Let your 10 Family members know you have awarded them.

5. That is it. Just please pick 10 people that have taken you as a friend, and spread the love.

I nominate these ones because they have truly made me feel welcomed and part of the blogging family here. I may not know them face to face but through their blogs and comments, they have allowed me into their friendship circles. I could have quadrupled the list. It was hard to choose from among the many dear family members I’ve met since Lessons by Heart began in March.

1.¬†¬†– I love this sister’s courage to face her fears, and her sweet support and encouragement.

2.¬†¬†– Toni is like the sister I never had. I can’t wait to get to heaven so I can raid her closet and “borrow” her shoes!

3.¬†¬†– Heidi (Wings of the Dawn) always has an uplifting comment, or encouragement. Sometimes she’s the wind beneath my wings!

4.¬† – Ann is a kindred spirit. Her courage to put one foot in front of the other when there doesn’t seem to be a point inspires me to “go and do likewise.”

5. РMy dear brother whose humility challenges me.

6. РLarry, a Hearer of the Word who is also a true Doer, a trait I admire. He also challenges me to live beyond myself.

7. Рmy dear sister who has Ephesians 4 dialed in Рthrough her words I am frequently better equipped for my ministry.

8.¬† – Elizabeth, another sister who’s history parallels mine. Consequently, she knows shares some of the things I have yet to learn on the path to healing. Thank you!

9.¬† – My dear “twin” sister, whom I’ve never seen in my life (not even before birth – :)). The similarities we share in tastes, thought, and the world in general are uncanny!

10. ¬† – Kevin, the most “real” fellow I’ve ever met. (Miss you, bro. You’ll be back soon, yes?)

Whatever is Lovely – Award

9 06 2013

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is also Philippians 4:8, ‚ÄúFinally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.‚ÄĚ My thoughts can go in all sorts of directions, and most of them go in the course that is not in line with God‚Äôs way. What a gem this verse is to show me exactly how God wants me to love Him with all my mind! Right in the middle of this verse is the word ‚Äúlovely‚ÄĚ. It is one of the eight things mentioned in this verse that our thoughts ought to be. The original word actually has its root in the Greek word¬†phileo, which means affection, friendship, or love (think of Philadelphia, the city of Brotherly Love). So, the word in this verse does not mean beautiful or something that is externally pleasing to the eye, as sometimes we use that word in English. In essence, what the verse is saying is this: whatever would encourage a love and friendship towards others, let your mind dwell on those things. (Note: this was so good that I left it as it was written!)

20130531-003155.jpgI have discovered that blogging can become another means to encourage love and friendship. No doubt I have been blessed by a number of bloggy friends, who have taken the time to read and follow my journey, share encouraging words, and offer their prayers. One such blogger is my dear sister from¬†Especially Made, who has also further blessed me with a nomination for the One Lovely Blog Award. (There‚Äôs that word again, ‚Äúlovely‚ÄĚ). She is a delightful mother of a special needs child, a talented writer, and a dear sister in the Lord. She shares her thoughts about these things on her blog. Thank you so much for the nomination!

Since this blog is a reflection of my thoughts (thoughts that, by the grace of God, are lovely), I desire that those who visit here would find words that spur them on to love others. This is only possible because of Him!

I would like to pass this award on to 7 lovely bloggers. Here are my nominees: РAnn, who always has a timely word from the Lord РDiana, whose blog comes with healing in its wings РKim, who challenges and encourages me through her writings РLarry, whose heart for the poor challenges me to think beyond myself. My dear brother in the Lord whose honest self-examination inspires me to do likewise РRos, who combines music and grace, which flows with inspiration, encouragement, and challenge to draw closer to the Lord РDivina Grace, who shares the love of the Lord in two languages (an ability which I envy!)

If you would like to post about this award and pass it on to others, here are the rules.
1. Add the ‚ÄúOne Lovely Blog Award‚ÄĚ image to your post
2. Share seven things about you
3. Pass the award on to seven nominees
4. Thank the person who nominated you
5. Inform the nominees by posting on their blogs

Last and certainly least, here are 7 random things about me.
1. Some days I make the Cowardly Lion look like Rambo.
2. I learned to draw with Commander Mark – and can draw awesome spaceships and dinosaurs… see “I Hate Frogs”
3. I used to be a welder.
4. I believe housework to be a lesson in futility.
5. My favorite “big word” to use is pusillanimous…it best describes me when I’m acting like my #1 statement above!.
6. I’m learning how to be a girl.
7. I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.

Have a wonder-full day!

Six More Awards!

26 05 2013

Thank you to Amorelle at for nominating me for these awards.

Thanks to all my faithful readers and followers. I truly appreciate all your likes, comments, reblogs and partnership. You have made blogging worthwhile.

Its an honour to be nominated by such a thrilling and gifted writer.  Please check out her blog over at  She’s a very encouraging and inspiring writer, often using stories to convey Biblical truths. Be sure to stop by and read her work. My personal favorite is Just Drive.

The rules for accepting these awards are to state seven things about yourself and then pass the awards on by nominating 15 other blogs. Let them know they’ve been nominated!

Ok…. Seven things about myself:

1.  I am an intimate lover of Jesus and everything about Him.

2.  I love spiritually dead people and long to see the Lord resurrect them.

3.  Music is what flows through my veins, not blood. I sing or hum praises almost 24/7.

4.  I am a deep thinker.

5.  I love a good adventure.

6. ¬†I am a “cheap date” preferring used anything to new (except toilet paper!). The idea of paying tens or hundreds of dollars for the right to say I owned it first is silly to me.

7.  I recorded my first music CD this year for a nurse in Nicaragua.

Now these are my nominations:

See you tomorrow! Don’t forget:
